I am hanging paintings for my show opening Monday December 19 from 6-9 p.m. at my studio Cuauhtémoc 635 in downtown Puerto Vallarta, save the date!
I have added the watch cat of Cuauhtémoc, Oscar, to the painting of Don Max who brings his daily catch of red snapper to the market. I may keep adding the various creatures, the iguanas, birds and butterflies too; all giving comfort to the neighbours as we carry on with our daily routines. So reassuring, everything must be alright because there is Oscar, sitting pretty, as he did for his portrait.

I am still unpacking early works that were left behind when I moved my studio to Mexico, works I did in my Toronto studios, this from my Manning Street studio in an old bottling works factory building. The cement in the walls was mixed with horse hair and this apparently made the building difficult to tear down although it was torn down after I left, Denise was in it at the time they came with ball and chain to knock it down. Big factory walls made for big paintings, here I am now back in Canada in a small space doing small painting part of the year, big old buildings torn down and areas gentrified. I met an artist who had been in Toronto working in the 70s and 80s and we talked of how we had to keep moving further out from Yonge Street, Dupont Street, Spadina, Manning until I ended up in Mexico and he on Vancouver Island, keeping a low overhead, who knew when money would be coming in.
Sunday night in Mexico means dancing the night away.
